Sensor Details
What is the MQ-8 Sensor?
The MQ-8 gas sensor has high sensitivity to Hydrogen (H2). It is a low-cost sensor suitable for detecting hydrogen concentrations in the air, making it ideal for safety and leak detection applications.
Primary Gas Detected:
- Hydrogen (H2)
- Also responds to other combustible gases like LPG and smoke.
How does it work?
Similar to other MQ-series sensors, it uses a Tin Dioxide (SnO2) sensing element. The resistance of this element decreases as the concentration of hydrogen gas increases. This change is then read by a microcontroller to determine the gas level.
Common Applications:
- Industrial gas leak detectors.
- Safety systems for hydrogen fuel cells.
- Laboratories and chemical plants.
- Portable hydrogen gas detectors.
